Jonathan Bouchard

CEO, Founder, and Entrepreneur

Jonathan Bouchard is a Canadian trader and entrepreneur who began his career in financial markets as a teenager and went on to achieve notable results across proprietary trading, banking, and education. Known for his disciplined approach and practical methods, he developed a reputation for producing consistent outcomes without relying on a traditional academic path. Over time, he managed multimillion-dollar portfolios, achieved record-breaking performance in the brokerage industry, and earned recognition for his trading during the COVID-19 crisis. His work now extends to building one of Quebec’s largest trading communities, where he helps others develop their skills in the markets.

Starting in Trading

Raised in Montreal after being born in New Brunswick, he began exploring financial markets at 17. While many chose university as their path, he dedicated himself to learning through observation and direct practice. He started with currency trading, developing skills that emphasized discipline and careful risk management. This early experience shaped his approach and created the foundation for his future career.

Opportunity at a Proprietary Firm

At just 18, his ability led to a role with Montreal Trading Group, a proprietary trading firm that gave him discretionary control of $5 million. Despite his young age and lack of a degree, he earned the firm’s trust through performance and dedication.

His responsibilities included creating and refining strategies such as pair trading and market making. He also worked with tools like electronic communication networks and dark pools. During this time, he emphasized the use of quantitative models and backtesting to confirm long-term profitability. His focus on positive expectancy, the principle of ensuring consistent gains across many trades, led to the improvement of two of the firm’s strongest strategies.

Career at BMO Financial Group

In 2019, he transitioned to BMO Financial Group as a stockbroker. He managed a diverse range of clients, including ultra-high-net-worth individuals with portfolios worth over $10 million. His role involved advanced instruments such as derivatives and complex option strategies, including butterfly spreads and iron condors.

Soon after joining, he broke a company record by closing $129 million in a single quarter. This performance achieved a sales rate of approximately $300,000 per hour, surpassing the results previously set by senior brokers. His overall ranking placed him third among stockbrokers nationwide, reflecting his ability to compete at a high level in a demanding environment.

The COVID-19 “Home Run”

The global pandemic of 2020 presented one of the most volatile markets in decades. While many investors avoided risk, Jonathan Bouchard saw an opportunity in merger and acquisition activity. By using stock derivatives to position against deals that were likely to be disrupted or canceled, he produced a return 15 times greater than his original investment.

This achievement earned him the nickname “Home Run,” highlighting one of the most successful trades of his career. The result demonstrated not only technical skill but also the willingness to act decisively under challenging conditions.

Entrepreneurial Shift: Founding The Trading Floor

After years in proprietary and institutional finance, he focused on creating opportunities for others. In 2024, he launched The Trading Floor, a community and trading platform. Its goal is to provide education, mentorship, and shared workspaces that allow participants to grow together.

The project has become one of Quebec’s largest trading communities, with over 1,000 students participating in its programs. The curriculum covers stocks, cryptocurrencies, and forex, always centered on strategies with proven long-term profitability. In addition to online programs, the initiative features a physical space with a capacity for 70 traders to work simultaneously, fostering a collaborative environment for real-time learning.

Educational Vision

His teaching philosophy is rooted in his own experience. He stresses discipline, emotional control, and risk management as the key skills for long-term success. Rather than focusing solely on theory, he emphasizes direct market practice and the importance of developing habits that sustain profitability.

Many of his students have reported substantial results, with some reaching monthly earnings in the tens of thousands. These outcomes reflect the effectiveness of his method and his commitment to providing practical tools rather than promises of quick success.

Professional Qualifications and Recognition

Although his career path was built on experience, he also pursued the certifications required for formal roles. Through the Canadian Securities Institute, he completed the Canadian Securities Course in June 2019, the Conduct and Practices Handbook qualification in July 2019, and the licensing program for derivatives and options. These credentials enabled him to balance his independent approach with regulated responsibilities in banking.

His efforts have been recognized through several awards. At Montreal Trading Group, Jo Bouchard received the “Trader of the Month” award twice, while at BMO Financial Group, he earned “Employee of the Quarter” on two occasions within his first year. These acknowledgments reflected both performance and professionalism.
